How do people afford a loft conversion?
There are many ways that people raise the money for a loft conversion, the most common of which being either a remortgage or a loan that later gets added to the mortgage. It can take anywhere from 6 weeks for a small straightforward conversion to 12-14 weeks for a larger loft that requires greater structural changes. Loft window conversions that do not require a dormer would be much quicker.
Can I use my loft as a bedroom without planning permission?
In most cases you will not require planning permission as it falls under "Permitted development". There are a few exceptions when you will need planning permission for example if your house is listed or you are dramatically extending the size of your property.
Can I sell my house with a loft conversion?
During a loft conversion we will be having visits by an independent building control company who make sure that buildings are constructed within accordance with building regulations and other relevant legislations. At the end of the job, as long as all requirements are met (which they will be), the loft is then signed off and you are able to sell your house with the extra space, thus making it worth much more!
